Many more of them live next door
Sunday, February 24th, 2008Yesterday Sara and I did some work in the yard - pulling weeds, trimming hedges, etc. I pulled out the crappy tree stump outside our back window, and Sara planted a blueberry bush in the hole. We also moved the apricot tree hidden behind the hedge into a sunnier spot next to the house, and put a rhodie in it’s old spot. It’s much more suited to the shade of the hedge than the dwarf apricot was.
I tore out some more blackberries from the fence line, and made arrangements with Sara’s moms to replace the shared segment of fence in the back corner. We’ll probably end up doing it a few weeks in advance of the rest of the fence just because of dog issues. I’m looking forward to getting all the blackberries torn out. I just need someplace to put the debris…
It’s the time of year when the first bulbs start to poke their flowered heads above the ground, and the trees begin to show the first signs of a return to life. Even the bugs are coming back. For some reason all the life in our yard so far is out front. It’s so nice to see, I had to take a few pictures. And since this blog is (as I’ve said) a thinly veiled pretext for linking to my pictures, here they are.
In somewhat related news, I have new love for color management and new hate for applications that don’t properly honor color profiles. It’s never been a real big issue for me before, but the ladybug in these pics is supposed to be fire-engine red. It looks correct in Lightroom and Safari, but every other browser I’ve tried - including Firefox 3 Beta 3 with color profile support enabled - makes it look all orangey. It’s probably my LCD’s fault, but it doesn’t look correct on Windows under any application. If you’re reading this on a Mac and not in Safari, I recommend that you switch over and check out the pictures in it. I’m not going to tell you use it any more than that - I think it’s a worthless browser otherwise - but give it a try. Here’s the difference I see between Safari and Firefox.
